New York online sports betting is becoming legal
Sports betting in some upstate casinos is already a thing in New York, yet online betting has not been made legal. However, access to sportsbooks might be coming to New York sooner than previously expected. This is due to the state taking new steps to make this happen.
Online Sports betting moves closer to be legalized in New York:
New York State Register took notice on mobile sports betting. They stated that we might be able to see it legalized very soon. This notice talks about the adoption of mobile sports betting rules. The notice also requires that the state start moving towards the official launch of online sports betting.
How is it going to be set up?
We are expecting to see the servers for these betting apps to set up in casinos. The information comes from a notice from the New York State Register. The amendment will allow the State Gaming Commission to set rules for mobile sports wagering. This will happen through servers located at casinos, improving sports wagering regulations. Casinos set in New York are already offering retail sports betting. However, it has yet to be legalized. This caused New York residents to move to New Jersey and Connecticut to find sportsbooks.
When can we expect to see it legalized?
It seems that online sports betting is on schedule to be launched before the kickoff of the Super Bowl in 2022. Although it is currently unavailable, there are still in-person betting opportunities available. The New York sportsbooks will offer a range of wagers to be made on all major sports.
How it is currently going:
In April of this year, State legislators passed budget-related legislation. This rule has allowed the start of online sports betting. The gaming commission has its requirements, though. They require licenses for at least two mobile platforms. The platforms offering sports betting can host no more than four sportsbooks. A 10-year license was approved on November 8th for two groups. Their betting revenue would be subject to a 51% tax rate. Apart from this, there has been one slight complication with the operators. It is regarding the submission of the promotions 15 days before being launched for approval.

It is a slow road to the finish line, but it is heading towards it. So it seems like we will still have to wait for a little more while before we can see these online sports betting apps launched.
