It’s finally playoffs time for the Indian Premier League IPL 2021. Now that the league stage is done, the 4 cricket teams making the playoffs are clear. These are Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The surprise this year comes from Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. The MI failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2018, while KKR secured their place in the top 4 for the first time since the same year.
Delhi Capitals finished the league stage on top of the points table with 20 points. The second position is for the CSK, followed by RCB. Even though they have the same number of points as the Super Kings, RCB take the third position due to a lower net run-rate. The fourth place is taken by KKR with 14 points.
What will happen at the IPL playoffs?
In Qualifier 1 the top 2 teams Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings will face each other in Dubai on the 10th of October. After them on the 11th Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator. The winner from the Eliminator will play against the losing side of Qualifier 1 in the second qualifier. Needless to say, the loser from the Eliminator goes home.
Finally, the last stage of the Indian cricket championship will be the clash between the winners from Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2. The Final will be played on October 15th.
